This is our first major announcement for some time, but it is a big one. This week saw the official launch of five brand new i-stay bags, the Fortis range.
These bags are designed with the travelling executive in mind. A sleek and classy exterior encases a multitude of features within. As with our launch range, each bag is made of the highest quality nylon, with gunmetal fixtures and fittings, and all boast an extensive organiser section (with the addition of a detachable key fob) with huge amounts of storage space for your other essentials.
Every bag has a pocket specially tailored to fit a tablet of up to 12 inches in length, and all bar the tablet bag have another pocket for a laptop of up to 15.6 inches. Both of these pockets are lined with luxury burgundy ‘non-scratch’ fabric and each bag is fully padded throughout for maximum protection and comfort.
Speaking of comfort, our patented non-slip strap remains a key feature of course – with one exception. This range includes i-stay’s first trolley bag – with wheels designed to run ultra-smoothly – which we don’t recommend you carry on your shoulder! However, you can attach the laptop organiser/clamshell bags onto the telescopic handles using the retainer strap on the back.
i-stay Fortis is the perfect companion for business and travel. Have a closer look on our website here; http://i-stayput.com/collections/i-stay-fortis-range.
This past week, i-stay received another great review. We loaned out three of our laptop bags to an ergonomics tester, Axis Ergonomics. They subjected our strap to its most thorough test yet.
Their conclusions were:
- The i-stay strap fulfils many of the good design features of a single shoulder strap
identified in the ergonomics literature.
- Testing of the strap in use shows that it does not slip off the shoulder when attached
to a loaded bag as easily as a conventional shoulder strap. This is because of the
combination of strap width, frictional properties of the material on the underside of the strap, and the shape, size and profile of the load-bearing aspect of the strap.
- The design features of the strap mean the surface area in contact with the top of the
shoulder is considerably larger than a conventional strap. This will reduce shoulder
pressure and, most likely, spinal compression.
- Since the strap is less likely to slip off the shoulder then the risk of a bag falling
unexpectedly and being ‘snatched’ before it falls to the ground is reduced. In turn this reduces the risk of a manual handling injury sustained by catching a falling bag.
- The use of the strap leaves both arms more free to be able to be used with a lesser
risk of the bag falling from the shoulder.
Or in short:
Another professional commendation. Thank you Andy Nicholson and Axis!
Of all the honours bestowed upon the i-stay non-slip strap, one that we emblazon across all our media and packaging is this:
Shortly after the i-stay’s launch, the Royal College of Chiropractors tested the i-stay’s claim of lightening the load of a heavy shoulder bag, and were sufficiently impressed to award it their official commendation:
“The College of Chiropractors has commended the i-stay non-slip bag strap for its potential to help users avoid musculoskeletal discomfort and to minimise the aches and pains associated with carrying a heavy shoulder bag.”
Needless to say, this was an unexpected bonus for a product conceived purely to make carrying your bag a little less irritating! This week, we had a look at who else carries this badge of honour and could find only one other – Dyson.
Yes THAT Dyson. The Dyson of bag-less vacuum fame. The Dyson who completely revolutionised their section of the market, and massively raised the bar for domestic appliance standards. The Dyson of nearly 2,000 patents. The same Dyson whose founder also gave his name (and money) to one of Britain’s most prestigious awards for new inventions. The same Dyson whose founder can’t even cultivate a garden without adding some technological marvel.
According to this page on Dyson’s website, the College was similarly impressed by one of their other great designs, if not their absolute finest, the Dyson Ball Vacuum.
So, there you have it. If anyone else has had this commendation, then don’t be shy to display it. You’re clearly in very esteemed company!
One product that’s caught our eye lately is this, the Hiplok. In short, it’s a bike lock that you can wear while on the move.
Have a look at them on YouTube
There a number of reasons why this should interest us (especially as several of our staff are keen cyclists). but above all, nothing gives us a bigger buzz than finding a kindred spirit.
Like i-stay, Hiplok have been inspired to exist by a common irritation.
Like i-stay, their eventual solution was innovative, yet simple, practical and comfortable.
Like i-stay, their ingenuity has won them awards.
Like i-stay, they are a small company quietly revolutionising their industry.

One interesting development in the tech world over recent years has been the rise of the ‘phablet’.
Phablets are where smartphones and tablet computers meet. Essentially a ‘big mobile’, phablets are proving an effective alternative for those who find typical-sized smartphones too fiddly (or a smaller screen too difficult to read), but neither want something quite so cumbersome as a two-handed tablet computer:

Best Phablets – PC Advisor
The one drawback has been storage. Although designed to be as sleek as an average mobile, phablets are too wide for most pockets. Thankfully, i-stay are, as ever, ahead of the game.
Every i-stay case comes with a fancy padded organiser section. These compartments have specially shaped, secure pockets for each individual item in your mobile office. The ones for phones are easily snug enough to store even a phablet, eliminating any unsightly bulges in your clothes.
But what happens if your phablet starts going off? Well, the position of the organiser on the front of the bags ensures quick access. With the exception of our rucksack, you won’t even need to take the bag off your shoulder to open it.
i-stay = No More Rummaging.
Contrary to rumours, i-stay would like to make it perfectly clear that we have absolutely nothing against other bags. After all, variety is the spice of life.
To prove it, we would like to highlight one of the i-stay’s main selling points – its portability. You see, the i-stay isn’t just for slick business professionals. The clips at either end of the strap mean it can be attached to any bag that has D-rings, whether a laptop bag, a camera bag, a sports bag or whatever.
It’s the best way of discovering the i-stay’s benefits. Just clip the strap on and you’ll be amazed at how much lighter and more comfortable your own trusty bag suddenly feels when you wear it with an i-stay.

So, even if you feel that your current bag suits your needs, try it with an i-stay makeover. You’ll feel the benefit.
One of the many key features of the i-stay non-slip bag strap is the comfort provided by the rubber webbing. Especially when compared to a standard thin strap that digs into your shoulder, weighing you down and leaving a deep, red mark.
Well it gets better. The i-stay has been shown to genuinely benefit your health. With the web spreading the weight of the bag across your shoulder, your bag holds you down less. This means your posture remains closer to your natural gait than it would with an ordinary bag strap holding up all your heavy belongings and dragging one side of you down.
Over time, your musculoskeletal structure will feel the benefit of this decrease in strain and a return to a more natural stance. In recognition of this, the i-stay gained official commendation from the (now Royal) College of Chiropractors in 2012. It remains one of our proudest boasts.
